Kerin racing

The race is on at the dick lane velodrome. WILD!

  1. The Keirin is a full contact bicycle race where the pack needs to "follow" a motorized bicycle, called a durnee, for 4.5 laps of a 6 lap race. The laps get progressively faster as the durnee cranks it up, 18, 22, 24 mph....then pulls off and its a sprint to the finish. Speeds get up over 40 mph in these wild sprints. Elbows, head butts, shoulder push's..... all legal. These sprints gave me goosebumbs every time, coming out of turn 3 and 4 to the line. Remember that all track racing is on fixed gear bikes.
